Zoning uses controlled dampers in the ductwork to direct air to selected areas. A zone may be a room or a group of rooms. The controller, equipment interface, sensors and duct design all need to work together.
AIRFLOW CONTROL
Choose where conditioned air goes
Basic zoning opens, closes or adjusts the airflow to zones, depending on the controller. It gives you control over distribution without necessarily measuring a separate temperature in every room.
TEMPERATURE-BASED CONTROL

With suitable sensors, compatible controls can adjust airflow towards a zone’s temperature target. We discuss sensor locations, equipment limits and how the zones work together.

AirTouch 5 is an option for compatible ducted equipment. With its appropriate temperature sensors, zones can use temperature targets; without them, control is by airflow percentage.

Can one room heat while another cools?
A typical single reverse-cycle ducted system operates in one heating or cooling mode at a time. Zoning changes air distribution within that mode; it does not create a separate heating and cooling plant for each room.
Will every room need a sensor?
Only zones intended to use temperature-based control need the appropriate sensing arrangement. We explain which sensors are included and which areas share a zone.
Can zoning be added to my existing ducted system?
It may be possible. We need to check the equipment model, existing controller, access to the ductwork and the proposed airflow design before confirming a retrofit.
Will zoning lower my power bill?
It can help avoid conditioning unused areas, but the result depends on the home, equipment, settings and habits. We explain sensible operation without promising a fixed saving.
